Mangaluru International Airport has been named after Adani Group, as the same is in charge of the maintenance of the Airport. But the DCC and localities are against the naming of Mangaluru International Airport after Adani Group.
The urge to rename Mangaluru International Airport after the twin cultural folk heroes of Tulu Nadu – Koti Chennayya has been doing rounds since many years.
The Malavoor Gram Panchayat had passed a resolution to rename the Airport after Koti Chennayya four years ago, and had sent it to DK Zilla Panchayat, which too had passed a resolution and sent to the state government to be sent to the Centre for the approval.
Now, Mulky-Moodbidri MLA Umanath Kotian has urged the Karnataka Legislative Assembly to recommend the Union Government to name Mangaluru International Airport after Tulunada Bravehearts Koti-Chennayya.
In response to Umanath Kotian, Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said, ”Mangaluru International Airport’s maintenance has been given to Adani Group by the Union Government. Inorder to change its name, we will try to convince concerned department and minister”.
Several rallies and protests have been carried out demanding the state government to name the airport after Koti-Chennayya. Will the state government consider this and make further steps in renaming Mangaluru International Airport.? Lets wait and watch.
