India has officially got a vaccine against novel coronavirus infection as the DCGI announced the formal approval for Covid vaccines manufactured by the Serum Institute and Bharat Biotech.
Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) said that the Covid vaccines will be administered in two dosages each.
”Both firms have submitted data on their trial runs of the coronavirus vaccines and both have been granted permission for ”restricted use” in emergency situations” said VG Somani, DCGI.
Announcing approval to Serum Institute’s Covishield Vaccine, VG Somani said, ”Vaccine trial was conducted on 23,745 participants and the efficacy of the vaccine was found to be more than 70%”.
VG Somani also said, ”Bharath Biotech’s coronavirus vaccine ‘Covaxin’ is safe and gives robust immune response”
After examination, CDSCO (Centrail Drugs Standard Control Organisation) accepted the recommendations of the Expert Committee (Coronavirus Subject Expert Committee) and approved vaccines of Serum and Bharat Biotech for restricted use in emergency situations.
”We’ll never approve anything if there’s slightest of safety concern. Vaccines are 110% safe. Some side effects like mild fever, pain and allergy are common for every vaccine” said VG Somain, DCGI.
As DCGI announced the formal approval to Covishield and Covaxin vaccines, PM Narendra Modi congratulated India.
